The Richlands Inala and Suburbs History Group Inc. was formed in 1996. The Group focuses on the south-western fringe of metropolitan Brisbane. The Group has done excellent work in highlighting a unique area that combines the old industrial land of Wacol and Darra with the newer industrial land of Willawong and Larapinta, along with the old Housing Commission areas of Inala and Carole Park with the newer and upwardly mobile estates of Ellen Grove and Forest Lake. Few local history organisations can cover a diverse territory of major nineteenth century colonial sites, virgin scrub and parkland with indigenous sites of significance, factory sites important to Brisbane’s 20th century urban sprawl, plus residential areas to suit the full range of social and economic needs, from public housing to small acreages.

The society has a timeline from 1823 to 2014, and a small photographic collection.  The society is very productive with lead history managers Vicki Mynott and Angela Naumann. The Group’s publications are substantive, and demonstrate a strong commitment to history research principles.
