The Brookfield District Museum and Historical Society endeavours to record the history of the western Brisbane suburbs of Brookfield and Upper Brookfield for the benefit of present and future residents.
A major strength of the Brookfield District Museum and Historical Society over the past fourteen years has been members who are second and third generation descendants of the original European settlers. The Society has collected about twenty oral histories, one going back to the 1920s.
The Museum building, on the Brookfield Showground, is a restored farmhouse from Pullenvale. Profitable timber-getting from the mid-nineteenth century evolved into thriving farming communities in the early twentieth century, as reflected in the Museum’s collection. Lacking rail connection and with no through road, Upper Brookfield, in particular, established and has retained a separate identity and strong connections with the past.
A large collection of photos sourced from present and past residents has been digitised.
