The Sandgate & District Historical Society formed in 1983. The Society became the Sandgate &
District Historical Society & Museum Inc. in 1993 when it gained its own museum at 150 Rainbow
Street, Sandgate. It regularly organizes a paid two-hour Guided Historical Walk. As a museum, the
work of the Society focuses on artefacts. Along with a small photographic collection, the Society’s
website provides a timeline from 1823 to 1955, and lists of street name changes and family names. A
noted historian associated with the Sandgate & District Historical Society is Dr Marion Diamond, a
European specialist and Australian colonial biographer.
