The Kenmore & District Historical Society Inc. was formed in 2013. It is a typical local history
organisation, and, hence, conventional, looking to cater for serious historical research, historical
curiosity and local enthusiasm, and ego or familial centred nostalgic memory. 1 There is a small
collection of photographs and documentary sources. The Society has a number of working research
groups, and currently:
Chapel Hill cemetery –Judy Magub
Research of the history of local schools –Judy Magub
Commercial history of Kenmore –Sue Deal
Boer War names, Kenmore War Memorial
World War 1 names, in partnership with the RSL
Research of the suburb of Fig Tree Pocket –Judy Magub
1 From KDHS website accessed 28 December 2017, “…Whilst not everyone wants to immerse themselves in
historic research, most people are really interested to find out how the suburb operated as a farming
community until the housing estates commenced in the 1950s. And, others who have lived in Kenmore for
decades have a strong role in sharing their memories and photographs of life in the then ‘outer suburb’.”
Research of Street Names –Judy Magub
The McGrath family – Deann O’Donohue
Racecourse, postal services and service stations – Jim and Barbara Shepherd
Early homes in the area – Ian and Cathy Douglas
Misty Morn area – Dr Sue Turner
