The Friends of South Brisbane Cemetery Inc. was formed in 2005. It began when Roma Waldron and
Tracey Olivieri were shocked at the deplorable condition of this heritage-listed cemetery; “only five
minutes from the centre of Brisbane it looked like it could have been in the middle of the bush”. As
well as the Friends being active in cemetery studies (e.g. indexing), extensive work has been done on
biographical entries on notable persons buried in the cemetery. The noted historians who have done
work at professional level in biographical entries, online essays, and publications are Chris Dawson
and Tracey Olivieri.
